2018-2019 Season Highlights
We are proud to collaborate with the Austin Chamber Music Center in their 11th annual Pride Concert. This performance features vocal works by a wide variety of LGBTQ composers. The event is free and open to the public, sponsored by the Clavier-Werke School of Music.
Conductor Brent Baldwin leads Panoramic Voices in works by Pauline Oliveros, John Cage, Stephin Merritt, and Aaron Copland. Liz Cass, mezzo-soprano, is joined by pianist Jim James in art songs by Judith Weir and Ned Rorem as well as a selection of songs by local composers Russell Reed and Graham Yates. Soprano Katrina Saporsantos performs the Texas premiere of Robin Estrada’s “Duayya.”
In Bloom is an immersive sound installation that allows audiences to examine our relationship with the natural world and question traditionally conceived ideas of control. The audience is invited to experience the blooming of several flowers as a spatial experience instead of a temporal one. Improvising musicians are spread out along a circular path in small groups, each group representing a progressive stage in the blooming of the flower. The audience is given the choice as to how fast they move through the installation, what direction they move through it, and at what points they choose to start and stop, allowing each individual to control how they view each event.
In Bloom is a collaboration between the students of Austin Soundwaves, Panoramic Voices, composer James W. Parker and author Paola Caballero Daza. Support the next generation of musicians as we showcase the power of local talent and share in their inspiration. The event is part of Umlauf’s Family Day and is free and open to the public.
The 4th collaboration between Panoramic Voices’ singers and orchestra in which rock, pop, country, rap, and other musicians from the community and beyond are showcased. Year after year, this collaboration proves that musicians across genres shine when they bring their styles and talents together. Presented by KUTX, this concert features:
Again this year, ION is a benefit for the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, with a portion of ticket sales supporting HAAM's work providing access to affordable health care for Austins low-income, working musicians, with a focus on prevention and wellness.
Hosted by the Blanton Museum of Art, Beat the Rush is a series of free gallery concerts in which musicians perform in response to the paintings, drawings, and sculptures on display. In December, Panoramic Voices with The Invincible Czars returns, with special guests for a rocking holiday extravaganza!
Choral/orchestral music with rich poetry, as cast through the musical lenses of Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Corigliano, Randall Thompson, and Dana Falconberry. These selections represents some of Brent Baldwin's musical favorites in celebration of his 10 years as Artistic Director. A portion of the proceeds from the performance benefits the SIMS foundation.
