Generation Alpha is filled with change-makers who are hungry to make a positive impact on the world around them. Pano’s youth choirs provide singers in 2nd-12th grade with a vibrant and affirming space for communal choral singing, connecting with singers from a wide array of backgrounds. We meet each singer where they’re at, and explore the community building power of our voices united.

YOUTH: “Begin again”

WORDS & MUSIC BY
Daniel Brinsmead

  • Are you running ‘round in circles? Running faster than you’ve ever dared?

    And are you scared?

Are you waiting for the things that may not ever one day come to pass,

And if it did, would it last?

Are you swimming ‘gainst the tide? Will you ever reach the shore?

What is it for? Why not explore and see the rising of the sun?

Feel its warmth upon your face,

    Know the night has come and gone;

    Find yourself, begin again.

Are you waiting for the change that melts the coldest winter into spring? And makes you sing.

Are you wishing on a star that will never shine or look your way, at least, not today.

Then raise your head and think again.

Rainy days come now and then,

Just wait a while, and with a smile,

See the rising of the sun,

Feel its warmth upon your face,

    Know the night has come and gone;

    Find yourself, begin again.

Then keep moving, just keep moving forward.

NANO: “AmERICA THE BEAUTIFUL”

MELODY Samuel Ward
WORDS Katharine Lee Bates
BASED ON “Prelude in C Major” by J.S. Bach

  • O beautiful for spacious skies,

    For amber waves of grain,

    For purple mountain majesties

    Above the fruited plain!

    America! America!

God shed His grace on thee,

And crown thy good with brotherhood

    From sea to shining sea!

    O beautiful for patriot dream

    That sees beyond the years,

    Thine alabaster cities gleam

    Undimmed by human tears!

    America! America!

God shed His grace on thee,

And crown thy good with brotherhood

    From sea to shining sea!

NANO: “NIDO de Amor”

Lilia Vázquez Kuntze

  • Es un nido de amor
It is a nest of love

    Pían ya las crías
    The chicks are chirping

    Mamá pájaro llegó
    Mother bird has come

    Las atiende ya
    She cares for them now

    Y con gran ternura
    And with great tenderness

    Pico a pico alimentó
She feeds them one by one

    Las pequeñas aves
    The tiny birds

    Que pronto van a volar
    That will soon fly away

    Salta pronto de tu nido
    Fly from your nest soon

    Aletea muy veloz
    Beat your wings quickly

    Porque el viento esta contento
    For the wind is happy

    Y contigo va a jugar
    And will play with you

    Translation: Katie Villaseñor

NANO: “ANIMAL IMAGINATION”

TEXT Lucy Jones (5th Grade)
MUSIC Tom Shelton *Excerpt from Wiegenlied by Johannes Brahms

  • If I were a dragon and lived in a cave

I’d be such a fierce dragon I’d roar and I’d rave

Bullies wouldn’t bother me I’d dip them in punch

Neither would homework, I’d eat it for lunch!

Or if I were a lion, and lived on the plains.

Nothing would scare me not the quakes or the rains

I’d hunt herds of zebra, and watch the cubs play

Or maybe I’d act lazy and lay around all day

Could I be a Kiwi and hop on the ground

Or sleep in my nest all safe and all sound

Because I am me, I know that I could be

Any animal that blesses the land,

    Imagination is so grand!

Hannah & Gigi: “Crowded Table”

Brandi Carlile

  • You can hold my hand
When you need to let go
    I can be your mountain
    When you're feeling valley-low
    I can be your streetlight
    Showing you the way home
    You can hold my hand
When you need to let go

I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done

    The door is always open
    Your picture's on my wall
    Everyone's a little broken
    And everyone belongs
    Yeah, everyone belongs

I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done
And bring us back together when the day is done

Youth (small Group): “The Road Home”

Stephen Paulus
Soloist: Ivy

  • Tell me, where is the road
    I can call my own
That I left, that I lost
    So long ago
All these years I have wandered
    Oh, when will I know
    There's a way, there's a road
    That will lead me home

    After wind, after rain
    When the dark is done
As I wake from a dream
    In the gold of day
Through the air there's a calling
    From far away
    There's a voice I can hear
    That will lead me home

    Rise up, follow me
    Come away, is the call
With the love in your heart
    As the only song
    There is no such beauty
    As where you belong
    Rise up, follow me
    I will lead you home

Youth: “LUMEN”

Abi Betinis

  • Lumen accipe et imperti. Do ut des.

Receive the light and pass it on. I give that you may give.

Youth: “American prophecy”

MUSIC B.E. Boykin
TEXT Brittny Ray Crowell
Cello: Sophie Mathieu Percussion: Jordan Walsh

  • I. Inception

    What grows in broken spaces?

    When blood becomes dust

    When bone settles to stone

When they think there’s nothing left

We’ll make a harvest of our breath

    Unfold stories from the soil

    Of the miracle of ourselves

    II. Balance

And what was meant for bad

We’ll mold in our own hands

    To soothe what was scattered

    And gather what was bruised

Soul flowers from flesh - rise

to suns our Mothers made shine

when we were only star seeds, smaller than sand

flickering embers in night’s dark expanse

    III. Roots

Our roots are in the vision

    Promises for suffering sown

Strong as heartwood, sure as stone

May our marrow guide us home

Through this life and the next

What the earth knows, never dies

    Our soul is an archive

    We evolve, we survive

    - Brittny Ray Crowell

THEO: “500 Miles”

Peter, Paul, & Mary
Piano: AV

  • If you miss the train I'm on

You will know that I am gone

You can hear the whistle blow

    A hundred miles

    A hundred miles

    A hundred miles

    A hundred miles

    A hundred miles

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

    Lord, I'm one

    Lord, I'm two

    Lord, I'm three

    Lord, I'm four

Lord, I'm five hundred miles from my home

    Five hundred miles

    Five hundred miles

    Five hundred miles

    Five hundred miles

Lord, I'm five hundred miles from my home

Not a shirt on my back

Not a penny to my name

    Lord, I can't go home

    This way

    This way

    This way

    This way

    This way

Lord, I can't go home this way

If you miss the train I'm on

You will know that I am gone

You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

YOUTH & AUdience: “HOME”

Phillip Phillips
WORDS & MUSIC
Greg Holden & Drew Pearson
ARRANGED BY Alan Billingsley
Uke: Eve

  • Hold on to me as we go

As we roll down this unfamiliar road

And although this wave, wave is stringing us along

    Just know you're not alone

'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home

Settle down, it'll all be clear

Don't pay no mind to the demons

    They fill you with fear

The trouble - it might drag you down

If you get lost, you can always be found

    Just know you're not alone

'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home

    Ooooo

    Ahhhh

Settle down, it'll all be clear

Don't pay no mind to the demons

    They fill you with fear

The trouble - it might drag you down

If you get lost, you can always be found

    Just know you're not alone

'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home

    Ooo

    Ahh

NOLA: “CarA e dolce”

ALESSANDRO SCARLATTI (1659 - 1725)

  • Cara e dolce dolce,

    Dolcissima libertà,

    Quanto ti piange il core.

    Fra i lacci d'un crin d'oro

Prova d'un ciglio arcier la crudeltà.

    Le dure ritorte,

    Che rigida sorte

    Mi dà per mercé

    Mi stringono i pié

E al mio lungo penar negan pietà.

    Dear and very sweet,

    sweetest liberty,

however much my heart weeps for you.

Caught in the bonds of a golden head of hair,

it feels the cruelty of an eye that shoots arrows.

    The hard ropes

    that unbending fate

    gives me in mercy

    tie my feet together

and deny pity to my long suffering.

YOUTH & AUDIENCE: “FINLANDIA”

MUSIC: Jean Sibelius (1899)
TEXT: Lloyd Stone & Michael Joncas

  • This is my song, for every land and nation

A song of peace for lands afar and mine.

This is my home, the country where my heart is

    Here are my hopes, my dreams and future shine;

But other hearts in other lands are beating

With hopes and dreams, as true and high as mine.

    A place called home, with comfort for the weary;

A place called home, of nourishment and rest:

A place called home, that welcomes in the stranger,

Where one unknown becomes a welcome guest

Wher elove can find a human habitation,

May we each find this grace, this place called home.

A place called home, where tenderness can flourish:

A place called home, a haven from all harm:

A place called home where children sleep in safety,

Where hurts are healed, a shelter from the storm,

Where peace can find a human habitation,

May we each find this grace, this place called home.

My countries skies are bluer than the ocean,

And sunlight beams on clover leaf and pine:

But other lands have sunlight too and clover,

And skies are everywhere as blue as mine.

O hear my song, in every land and nation

A song of peace for your land and for mine.

A place called home, for every human being:

A place called home where arms are opened wide:

A place called home where all extend the melcome

where none are lost, a lone or cast aside,

each members of a single human family

May we each build in grace, this place called home

VALE: “A million Dreams”

ZIV ZAIFMAN

Youth & Nano: “Does the world say?”

Kyle Pederson
Soloist: Amity

  • Does the world say

that you don't look the right way?

    Does the world say

    that you're just not enough?

    Does the world say

that this isn’t the right spot?

When it wants you there but not here

and tells you all the things you are not.

    I've been there, too.

It's hard to shut my ears to the noise.

I don't stand a chance if it's me in this world all alone.

The chatter is deafening, too overwhelming,

hard to find my way home.

So take my hand...don’t let go.

    Does the world say

that you don’t think the right things?

    Does the world say

that you’re not worth the time?

    Does the world laugh

when you fall, when you cry?

Does it turn the other way

    every time you walk by?

    I'm growing, learning,

    loving, becoming.

So take my hand...don’t let go.
