Ode to Joy

May 1, 2022

We were thrilled to join the Central Texas Philharmonic (CTP) for the final performance of their 2021–2022 season! Ludwig van Beethoven’s epic Symphony No. 9 was a bucket-list work for many of our singers. Thank you to CTP Musical Director Stefan Sanders and CTP Executive Director Kathy White for being so welcoming on stage and behind the scenes.

Our preparation for this challenging work was made easier through the work of many fabulous musicians, including Benjamin Dia, our rehearsal accompanist, and our section leaders: Chaz Nailor (bass), Gregory Hillard (tenor), Alicia Villareal (alto) and Katrina Saporsantos (soprano). Stefan Sanders also graciously came to work with us at some of our rehearsals.

We would like to recognize the outstanding contributions of Juli Orlandini, who stepped up to lead this project for Panoramic Voices as our rehearsal conductor. Juli thoughtfully planned and conducted rehearsals, recorded vocal tracks for singer individual practice and provided annotated scores with performance-specific notes. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes coordinating with CTP on the program (including designing our ad page) and concert logistics, writing/reviewing communications for our singers and audience, and recruiting singers from throughout Austin. Juli’s collaborative spirit and sense of community as well as her willingness to support others was an inspiration to us all, and she truly helped us to find the joy in Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
