MARU HARU is an Austin-based band known for sharing vulnerable songs in an orchestral-indie rock style. James Tabata, the band’s singer and songwriter, began recording what would become Maru Haru in a small dorm in Waco when he was emotionally isolated and physically injured. Throughout his years of overcoming internalized queerphobia and religious trauma, Tabata’s music became outlets of vulnerability, celebration of expression, and songs of remembrance. Composed of friends, music teachers, and software developers, Maru’s goal is to spread fun, compassion, and wonder.

Maru Haru’s sound has been described as an eclectic mix of J-Pop, indie punk, contemporary classical, and theatre. From telling stories of Asian American experiences to sharing revelations of self-discovery and acceptance, listeners have found nostalgia, empathy, and affirmation in Maru Haru’s music. Their upcoming album "Dearly Belated" has songs dedicated to deceased love, proud allies, and past selves who needed hope. IF I HAD A HAMMER

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
Lee Hays & Pete Seeger

ARRANGED BY/ARREGLO DE
Craig Hella Johnson

  • If I had a hammer, I’d hammer in the morning,
I’d hammer in the evening, all over this land.
    I’d hammer out danger.
    I’d hammer out warning.
I’d hammer out love between my brothers and sisters,
    All over this land.

If I had a bell, I’d ring it in the morning
I’d ring it in the evening, all over this land.
    I’d ring out danger.
    I’d ring out warning.
I’d ring out love between my brothers and sisters,
    All over this land.

If I had a song, I’d sing it in the morning,
I’d sing it in the evening, all over this land.
    I’d sing out danger,
    I’d sing out waning,
I’d sing out love between my brothers and sisters,
    All over this land.

Well, I’ve got a hammer, and I’ve got a bell,
And I’ve got a song to sing all over this land.
    It’s the hammer of justice,
    It’s the bell of freedom.
    It’s the song about
love between my brothers and sisters,
    All over this land.

THE EARTH IS ALIVE

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
James Takashi Tabata

  • Breathe dear new life,
    you are pure and bright.
    all seems so right
    when the clouds move dearly,
    beholding the heights
it will hold you tight and cut through the ice.

    Awaken my eyes,
    forsaken the light.
    Now come to life.
    The Earth is alive!
    No seas of regret
    can pull you yet
    The Earth is alive!

GOLDEN

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
James Takashi Tabata

  • Oh my lovely I seek to beseech you,
But I’m all out of flowers to reach you.
    Standing still in my thoughts,
I can’t let the moment pass me by.

Oh my conscience I know I should heed you,
But I don’t have a clue how to lead you.
I’ll say hello you golden mellow
And may you take me in.

Hello daylight you take me so easy,
And I’m filled by the breath that you leave me.
    If I’m feeling too far,
Can you let your warming hand in mine?

Oh my future you’ve entered my slumber,
And I look towards your sun in such wonder.
I’ll say hello you golden echo,
And sing you… take you in.

Alive and well, in time we will realize
The day we’re born, the day we have won.
When all is felt and hope is idealized,
    It’s still in our hearts
    we’re begging for something new.

    Fast asleep, awoken by reverence,
making way for things left undone,
we’ll laugh and sing a song of remembrance
still in our hearts, we’re ready for something new.

All could be changed, but the story never ends.
    And all could be saved
By the simplest note, a simple hello.
And all that I know, is that troubles never end,
    And all could be saved
    when I take you in,
    you take me in.

Oh my lovely let’s take to the sunrise,
and I’ll be by your side ‘till the moonlight.
I’ll say hello, you golden fellow,
and sing to take you in.

  • That sputter of rain flipping the hedge rows
    Making the highways hiss.
    How I love it!

And the touch of you upon my arm,
    As you press against me
that my umbrella may cover you.
Tinkle of drops on stretched silk,
    Wet murmur through green branches.
    That sputter of rain…

    (Love abounds.
    Love abounds in all.)

I bend forward to sated soil.
    Fabric shifts.
Ozone air kisses the small of my back.

(From the farthest depths of the ocean over every star,
    Love abounds in all.)

Your eyes flicker from darkened highway to exposed skin.
    Hearts pulsate across twilight skies
as clouds give way to moonlight.

(Was this not ordained by God?)

    Love abounds in all.

STILL REMEMBER

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
James Takashi Tabata

  • Don’t I try too hard for nothing left to see?
But I fear the silence crawling over me.
I see our talking had to stop there’s nothing left to see,
And I realize we never did agree.

    CHORUS:
    What is left?
    Of feelings back in time,
    What is kept?
A promise lacking before the light.
For what it’s worth I still remember our old life.

    Turned around too fast,
    turned too fast for me,
    and I fear the mem'ries
    of moments left between.

    Did you ever leave?
Did I feel these things too much?
Did I fear the silence or not,
Do we only know our own lives?

    CHORUS

With everything I have to miss you,
I will always have my issues.
Yet the thought of you tomorrow
Will always pull out all my sorrows.

With everything I have to say,
You’re like a tide rolling through my way.

    CHORUS

THE TIMES, THEY ARE A-CHANGIN’

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
Bob Dylan

ARRANGED BY/ARREGLO DE
Adam Podd

———

SOLOISTS/SOLISTAS:
Christopher Walker (Saturday/Sábado)
Mallory Wilkerson (Sunday/Domingo)

  • Come gather round people wherever you roam,
And admit that the waters around you have grown.
And accept it that soon you’ll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you is worth saving,
You better start swimmin’, or you’ll sink like a stone…
For the times, they are a-changin’.

Come mothers and fathers throughout the land,
And don’t criticize what you don’t understand.
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command.
Your old road is rapidly aging.
Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend a hand,
For the times, they are a-changin’.

The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast.
The slow one now will later be fast.
As the present now will later be past.
    The order is rapidly fading.
And the first one now will later be last,
For the times, they are a-changin’.

REALM OF LIES

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
James Takashi Tabata

  • The seasons change for the better.
Yet we brace ourselves for the weather.
We waste our lives in the city,
As we fade away in hunger and strife.

We are far from home or where we should be.
We are far from all, all that we could be.
Oh where to go, where to turn to?
Oh do we know we know how to feel alive?

    CHORUS:
This city is a realm of lies,
We’re fallin’ for a folly in disguise.

We have all been left behind
In searchin’ for a love we cannot find.

In the eyes of stone we are taken,
By the hands of ire – my god we are shaken.
We break ourselves in a pity.
We lose control of wings to take flight?

    CHORUS

The seasons change for the better
Yet we brace ourselves for the weather
We waste our lives in the city
    We’re steering away from grace,
Absorbing the pain in the endless cry…

    CHORUS

AS I AM

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
Paper Bird

ARRANGED BY/ARREGLO DE
Benjamin Dia

  • These arms of mine
    were made for lifting up
And when I set things down again
I hope they are better than they were

These eyes of mine like what they see
    when they're looking at you
If ever I can't see you anymore
I hope you're more beautiful than before

Winds are blowing, the sky is clear
    Let go of fear
    And what's happened to you
Don't worry your mind is a river
    Humming silver
    Never repeating

There is grace and there is motion
    In the ocean
    Turning, yearning and free
There's a fire that eats up longing
    Destroying wrong
    And it burns inside

    Oh my lover
    Will you take me?
    Will you take me now?
    As I am, boy,
    As I came to be.

STARDUST
**
PERFORMED BY PANO YOUTH (SATURDAY ONLY)**

MUSIC BY/ MÚSICA DE
B.E. Boykin

 WORDS BY/LETRA DE
Brittny Ray Crowell

  • If we are only stardust
Let your names reach to the sky above us
Like petals wafting on a breeze
We lift you up beyond our reach

    CHORUS:
“Kum Buba Yali, Kum Buba Tambe”
    Amen, Amen
    We say your names

    If we are only stardust
May your blood never be in vain
Life petals wafting on a breeze
We lift you up beyond our reach

    CHORUS

    Each day we
    grieve another face
    Maybe all this stardust
Will carry us home one day
To a home where we can run
A home where we can pray
A home where we can breathe,
To sleep and dream without fear—
    Is justice this far away?

    We cry your names
For the strength to keep on fighting
With the hope that you are flying

    CHORUS

CROWDED TABLE

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
Brandi Carlile, Lori McKenna, & Natalie Hemby

ARRANGED BY/ARREGLO DE
Andrea Ramsey

———

 SOLOISTS:
Hannah Shirley (Saturday/Sábado)
Stephanie Shirley (Sunday/Domingo)

  • You can hold my hand
when you need to let go.
    I can be a mountain
    when you’re feeling valley low.

    I can be a streetlight
    showing you the way home.
If you can hold my hand
when you need to let go.

    CHORUS:
I want a house with a crowded table,
and a place by the fire for everyone.
Let us take on the world while we’re young and able,
And bring us back together when the day is done.

    If we want a garden,
we’re gonna have to sow the seed,
    Plant a little happiness,
    let the roots run deep.

If it’s love that we give,
then it’s love that we reap.
    If we want a garden
we’re gonna have to sow the seeds.

    CHORUS

    The door is always open,
    your picture’s on my wall.
    Everyone’s a little broken,
    and everyone belongs.
    Yeah, everyone belongs.

    CHORUS

HOLLERING

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
James Takashi Tabata

  • There go those hollerin’ hearts
    quietly away, their lavender marks.
Things have not been the same
    since the grifters betrayed,
    their home to break.

    CHORUS:
Whenever I’m alone I remember your voice,
    told to wander from joy,

oh how it keeps me at bay.
Whenever I’m alone I remember your choice,
    told to wander no joy,
know how it keeps me away.

    There go those hollerin’ hearts
quietly in shame, their lavender scars.
Things have not been the same
since the father betrayed their lives at stake.

Lovers drift away to places they don’t know,
told their way of life’s a godforsaken choice.
    Holding hands and bearing slander,
taking arms ‘till they surrender light
    from their eyes.

    CHORUS

*STAY AWAKE*

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
James Tecuatl-Lee

 SOLOISTS:
Layna Bergstadt
Christopher Walker

  • You told me,
“Never go to bed angry with me.
Never say goodnight without I love you.”
But when you left without me baby,
We never got the chance to work it out.

    PRE-CHORUS:
Now I can’t get you to text me back,
My phone is dead and everyone

Around me In this club thinks I’m insane.
But I can’t go home can’t go to sleep
Till you’re with me and we are hand in
Hand again. I’m cryin’ tears of shame.

    CHORUS:
    But I’ll keep dancin’.
    I’ll stay awake.
    I’ll keep dancin’
    Long as it takes.
    I’ll keep dancin’
    Till that man
    Is in my arms again.

Stay awake till he comes back.
    Stay awake all night.
    Stay awake.

Don’t remember what even was it
Had us at each other’s throats tonight.
You were tired and I was hungry
And nothing that we might have said was right.

    You told me
That I don’t let you live your life
    The way you wanna live.
I said, “You know how to criticize
But you can’t take what you give.”

    PRE-CHORUS & CHORUS

He’s the one who’s always been
    My solace and my ecstasy.
If you’ve ever been loved like that
By someone, you know what I mean.

    And nothing in this world
Is worth a damn without him,
Damn the man for leaving me.

It’s been an hour and boy I miss you
I’ve been staring at the door…
Feeling drunker than I’ll admit to,
Every song they play I miss you more.

    You told me
That our love was made of something
    Indestructible.
And even now I still believe
We still can make it whole.

So come back and we can work it out tonight.
So come back and we can work it all night long.

    CHORUS

    You told me,
“Never go to bed angry with me.
Never say goodnight without I love you.”

TO THE STRONGEST

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
James Takashi Tabata

  • Don’t you feel so ridiculous like this?
    A dazzling ray surrounds you,
But do you know what they say about you?

What all did you lose to feel alive?
How does the world look around you?
Does it feel like it walks about you?

Don’t you feel it’s better to be in disguise?
    Your shining hair,
    They’ll stop and stare
And cut away at your luscious light…

But you keep on marching forth with greatest pride.
    I just stayed behind.
    I wasn’t petrified.

    CHORUS:
Your look, your voice, oh your graceful motions,
I was afraid to learn to love you.

They looked so wrong when they tore you open,
I didn’t say enough and hold you,
I didn’t say enough to love you.

You look like gold with your arms wide open
I was afraid to learn to love you,
    I was afraid to learn.

I couldn’t stand to bring you in
And thus I didn’t bring myself
    The love we always needed.

    I couldn’t feel it,
I couldn’t feel the words and grace
    You opened wide.

    CHORUS

YOU WILL BE FOUND

WORDS & MUSIC BY/LETRA & MÚSICA DE
Benj Pasek & Justin Paul

ARRANGED BY/ARREGLO DE
Mac Huff

 ———

SOLOISTS:
Diego Alvarez, Katelyn McCoy (Saturday/Sábado)
Miles Boyd, Tayler Thibodeaux (Sunday/Domingo)

  • Have you ever felt like nobody was there?
Have you ever felt forgotten in the middle of nowhere?
Have you ever felt like you could disappear?
Like you could fall, and no one would hear.

So, let that lonely feeling wash away.
‘Cause maybe there’s a reason to believe you’ll be okay.
‘Cause when you don’t feel strong enough to stand,
You can reach, reach out your hand.

    CHORUS:
And, oh, someone will come runnin’
And I know they’ll take you home.

Even when the dark comes crashin’ through,
when you need a friend to carry you…
And when you’re broken on the ground,
    You will be found.
So let the sun come streamin’ in,
‘cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again.
Lift your head and look around.
    You will be found.

There’s a place where we don’t have to feel unknown.
And everytime that you call out you’re a little less alone.
If you only say the word.
From across the silence your voice is heard.

    CHORUS

Out of the shadows the morning is breaking
And all is new, all is new.
    It’s fillin’ up the empty
And suddenly I see that all is new.

    CHORUS

THANK YOU TO LICK HONEST ICE CREAMS FOR SELLING AT OUR SATURDAY SHOW!

LICK HONEST ICE CREAMS: To us, "honest" simply means we use the purest ingredients we can find in  our artisanal ice creams. What doesn’t go into our ice creams is just as important as what does. We never use artificial colors or flavors, high fructose corn syrup or preservatives, ever! We can trace every  single ingredient we use to its source. Ice cream shouldn’t just taste good — we believe it should also be good.

We take great pride in witnessing our milk and cream as it journeys from the cow to your scoop. All the milk and cream used to make our ice creams comes from single herd, family-owned farms where the welfare of their grass-fed cows is the highest priority. All our sauces, cookie crumbles and inclusions are made in house, by hand. We churn every batch and hand pack each pint by hand in our kitchen. We roll each waffle cone made from our homemade recipe in our shops every single day. All to serve up the freshest, most honest ice creams possible. We are also committed to sustainability by using only compostable cups, spoons, and napkins in our shops.
